Growing Together: A New Vision for the Killaloe Ballina Community Garden 🌱

There’s something special about a community coming together to create something meaningful and that spirit is at the heart of the new Community Garden design in Killaloe Ballina.

This exciting initiative invites local residents, families, and volunteers to take part in shaping a shared green space that will benefit everyone. Whether you are an experienced gardener or simply curious about getting involved, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn, connect, and contribute.

🌿 An Invitation to Get Involved

A dedicated information session has been organised to give everyone a chance to learn more about the garden’s new design and how to take part:

• Location: Community Garden
• Date: 19th May
• Time: 2:00 PM

This session will provide insight into the garden’s layout, features, and long-term vision. It is also a great chance to share ideas and have your voice included in the project.

The design of the new garden represents more than plants and pathways—it reflects the roots of the community itself. Like the tree featured in the poster, with its strong trunk and spreading roots, the garden symbolises growth, connection, and sustainability.

The Living Well self-management programme is a free of charge, 2.5 hours per week continuing for 6 weeks thus a 15 hour programme with up to 15 participants with chronic health conditions or carers of people with chronic health conditions. The programmes take place on the same day/time each week. In Midwest, the majority of our programmes are done inperson at various locations throughout the region.

 The programme is ran in a very friendly and non-intrusive way and addresses topics such as fatigue, sleep, pain, stress, physical activity, healthy eating, difficult emotions, low mood, depression and general wellbeing.  The programme is ran by 2 facilitators, one of who must have a chronic condition themselves. Each participant is given a 400 page reference book ”Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions” which is a bestselling medical book but written in non-medical language.

 Living Well is an evidence based, structured Self-management Programme originally developed in Stanford University, California in the 1990’s. The programme has been delivered in Ireland since 2005 and is used worldwide.  It has been shown to improve quality of life and mental health and adopts a population health approach.

We are delighted to announce the return of the Rainbows Programme at the @Killaloe/Ballina Community & Family Resource Centre , beginning on 7th May.

This 9-week group support programme offers a safe, welcoming space for children aged 10–12 years who may be experiencing bereavement or parental separation. Through gentle conversation, shared experiences, and age-appropriate activities, children are supported to understand and express their feelings alongside others who may be going through something similar.

Rainbows is not counselling, but a carefully designed listening and support programme that helps young people build resilience , connection, and confidence during difficult times.

At the heart of this programme is a simple belief: stronger families start with small steps.
